Hats Off Day 2019 Highlights

Hats Off Day 2019 Highlights

Wearing everything from masks to capes, approximately 50,000 superheroes flooded Hastings Street for Burnaby’s biggest festival. Hats Off Day always features a variety of street performances, live music, delicious food, kids activities, and more!

A big thanks to all our sponsors for being a part of Hats Off Day and making the biggest, most exciting event of the summer possible!

Here are some of the highlights from this year’s fun-filled event.

Family Fun Dash

Hats Off Day kicked off with the 7th annual Family Fun Dash as kids, adults, dogs, and babies in strollers all lined up at Madison Avenue for pre-race stretches.

As the race horn went off the families dashed down three blocks of Hastings in what was the first “race” for many of the little ones.  Family Fun Dash participants received swag bags from sponsors as well as a wooden finisher medallion, which was new this year. The Burnaby Firefighters greeted everyone at the finish line. All the proceeds went to the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society.

Parade

The Heights Superhero theme was well displayed at this year’s parade. Almost two kilometers long and featuring more than 40 entries this is the biggest community parade of its kind in the Lower Mainland. After the parade, thousands of people flooded the streets for the Burnaby’s biggest street party, with yummy food, fun activities, and live entertainment for all ages.

Show&Shine

This year, the 18th annual Show & Shine displayed almost 120 cars from Willingdon to Gamma Avenue.

Food

Merchants went all out on Hats Off Day, offering a variety of delicious food options from a multitude of different cultures.

Music and Entertainment

A street party would not be complete without music and live entertainment. With more than 15 different local bands, artists, and entertainers, every block of Hastings Street offered fascinating and lively performances. A big thank you to all our merchants who presented live performances.

This year, there were three different kids’ zones as well as plenty of kids activities that included everything from face painting to a superhero training ground! The festival’s hosts handed out pinwheels and airplanes, in keeping with greener helium ballon-free policy.

Lastly, hats off to all the merchants, sponsors, entertainers, community, and volunteers, for participating in this year’s #HatsOffDay and bringing the Superheroes theme to life!
